"Taking leap for charity" - 25.03.11

MOTHER-OF-THREE Louise Heath is one of a growing number of people willing to jump out of a plane over the Yarra Valley to raise money for charity.

Mrs Heath, who runs a Box Hill-based eco-trades services business with husband Andrew, said she had enjoyed bungy jumping years ago and had wanted to take her thrill-seeking to the next level by doing a skydive.

With the help of Melbourne Skydive Centre, which is also donating the plane and parachute for the jump, she will head to Yering next month and leap out into the skies to raise awareness of the desperate need for housing for outer-east residents in crisis.

All funds donated to Mrs Heath’s skydive will go to Anglicare Victoria for its outer-east crisis accommodation programs.

“Economic conditions have forced more people out of their homes in recent years,” she said.

“And it has created longer wait lists for housing.

“Anglicare and other not-for-profit organisations that provide crisis accommodation need all the funding they can get to assist these people.”

As for her skydive, Mrs Heath said her friends and family were taken aback she would choose such a daredevil method to raise money for charity.

“They all think I’m mad,” she said.

“But at the same time are supportive that we can all make a difference.”
