Hocking Project Management
Problem:
We were approached by Hocking Project Management to provide a complex fully automated Rainwater harvesting solution for their client in Toorak.
The clients brief was simple:
We have a beautiful garden but are constantly away overseas.
With water restrictions at stage 3A we wanted to be able to rest easy that our garden would stay alive whilst we were away, along with doing our bit for the environment.
We wanted 20000 litres of storage without being seen. Fully automated into whole house irrigation system with mains back up without the need for any human interference. It had to be flood safe as well, as the tanks were to be located in the basement. Space around the property was also limited.
Solution:
The design team @ Fresh Tanks came up with a system that enabled catchment off the entire house roof, with collection into tanks holding in excess of 22800 litres. Nothing was left to chance. Average rainfall and roof catchment was assessed and filters and pumps sized accordingly, so as not to miss out on one drop of precious water.
By utilising the latest in rain harvesting technology we were able to design and install a system that is self cleaning and completely automated from start to finish.
The water was pre-filtered utilising German engineered self cleaning in ground vortex style filters to remove unwanted leaves and debris. The water was then captured in large “ Rain Return “ pits and pumped to the tanks in the basement with electronic high level floats to cut out when the tanks are full.
The water was then run through a secondary filter to remove any remaining fine contaminents and then pumped to all corners of the property and linked into the existing elaborate irrigation system.
A mains bypass system was also installed to cut in when the tanks are almost empty.
Emergency overflows were even connected to the existing stormwater system in the event of electrical storms interrupting the power supply.
All in all the Owner’s and the project management team were impressed with our solution and the best part is another beautiful established garden with large trees is saved from the drought and near certain extinction.
 Jim from Nth Balwyn
Problem:
Jim is a retired person with a passion for conservation and his garden.
He has spent many years tending to his garden and certain plants and trees hold special significance for him. He cannot get around as much as he used to and wanted a way to have water available around his garden that was easy to get to but without removing any plants.
In simple terms he wanted control of when and where he watered his garden. He no longer wanted to feel guilty for getting up a bit late and missing his allotted watering times.
Solution:
After close consultation with Jim, the team @ Fresh Tanks came up with an innovative solution to capture precious water for his garden without harming a single plant.
The answer was to have several smaller but low impact tanks dotted around amongst the garden to serve individual garden beds as required. He was also left with the added benefit of being able to transfer water from tank to tank as required. This gave him complete control over his watering time and use whenever it suited him best. The installations were staged over a period of time to fit in with Jim’s budget and schedule.
Here is what Jim had to say...
“I didn’t want a large obtrusive tank on my property and was very pleased with the solution offered. The small tanks I have are of various size, shape and height to suit their location; and the soft green colours fit in well with the garden.
In this period of below-average rainfall I have been amazed at the quantity of water saved from the roof, house and garage, and while using this water can happily forget the cost, as the value of the property has been enhanced.
My advice is to make the best use of every downpipe, and to call in the experts, call the team @ Fresh Tanks Now!
 The Standfield Family
Problem:
The Standfield’s wanted to do their bit for the environment and also teach their small children about water conservation. They still wanted areas for the kids to play and ride bikes so big tanks were not an option.
Solution:
The team @ Fresh Tanks utilized the latest design in slimline rainwater tanks to fit in excess of 6000 litres of storage in the disused sideway. The water was collected off the roof via several existing downpipes and diverted to the tanks. The water was then pumped into the toilet and washing machine and into the irrigation system for use on the vegie patch. With the installation of a water level gauge they can keep an eye on their water and give their children invaluable lessons in the conservation of our most precious resource. The added benefit was it left room in their backyard for a grassed area, sand pit and even a slide!
Testimonials
The Standfield’s
Like most people nowadays the idea of being able to harvest rainwater from the roof, use it for the toilets, washing machine & garden, was very appealing to us.
The Fresh Tanks solution was tailored to our specific needs resulting in an easy to use system that all the family can use & benefit from as well as the environmental benefits.
Our kids love getting their hands dirty helping out in the garden, particularly the veggie garden where they really become involved. The fact that we can use the water we collect has meant that our children have quickly come to realize what a valuable resource water is & delight in telling me each time it rains “the tanks will be full Daddy”.
We’re very happy with the end result & have no hesitation in recommending Andrew & the team at Fresh Tanks.
