Electrical Safety - 28.09.10Nothing is more important than the safety of you and your loved ones so making sure your electrical wiring is correct is a must to prevent house fires and electrocution. “We often come across old and defective wiring in roof spaces and under floors and they have the potential to cause property damage through fire and appliance malfunction, not to mention the potential to harm the occupants of the house,” Andrew said. "Often we find that the customer is unaware of the risks and once informed are happy for us to rectify the situation." Andrew said the team had seen some potentially fatal situations including downlights illegally installed too close to timber roof battens, posing a serious fire risk. The importance of electrical safety was highlighted as a consequence of shoddy operators rorting the Federal Government’s Home Insulation Scheme. An estimated 120 house fires have been linked to insulation installed as part of the Government's stimulus program after unskilled contractors installed new insulation or moved old insulation too close to devices such as downlights or heaters. "Fresh Living Group uses licensed electricians to inspect lights and wiring and perform switchboard upgrades. We also can install safety switches which safely shut off power and avoid the risk of electrocution,” Andrew said. “You can never be too careful, especially with small children around power outlets.” |
